Building strong foundations. Developing independent thinkers. Preparing students to perform when it matters.

With 10+ years of experience teaching secondary Mathematics and Science including curricula from Cambridge/IGCSE, SAT instruction and exam proctoring. I now work with students from Years 5 to 12, from foundational learning through to VCE.

I don't believe in teaching every student the same way. Before deciding what a student needs, I first find out what they already understand, where the gaps are, and what's actually holding them back. A student can look like they're struggling with algebra when the real issue is fractions. From there, I build a focused plan around their specific needs, not just more worksheets, but time that counts.

My Approach: Diagnose → Teach → Practise → Review → Progress

I start with diagnostic assessment, looking at:

Knowledge and prerequisite gaps
Problem-solving and reasoning
Accuracy and common error patterns
Exam technique and time management
Confidence and independence

As students progress, I adjust the level and type of questioning continually, rather than following a fixed worksheet. The aim is for students to become independent, not dependent on their tutor.

What I Teach

Years 5–10 Mathematics — Number & Algebra, Measurement & Geometry, Statistics & Probability (Australian/Victorian curriculum). Students learn why a method works and how to adapt it, not just how to follow steps.

Years 9–10 Science — Biology, Chemistry and Physics content, paired with the inquiry skills to interpret data, evaluate evidence and communicate reasoning clearly.

VCE Mathematics (Years 11–12) — General, Mathematical Methods, Specialist and Foundation. I identify exactly where marks are lost — content gaps, conceptual misunderstanding, application errors, careless mistakes, or timing — so every hour of study has a purpose.

Selective School & Scholarship Preparation — Targeted work on non-routine problem-solving, pattern recognition and performing under time pressure, progressing to full-length practice exams under realistic conditions. Also supports AMO, UNSW School Mathematics Competition and ICAS Mathematics where relevant.

Why It Works

Two students can make the same mistake for completely different reasons — one needs a new explanation, another needs to visualise the problem, another just needs harder questions. I adapt to the student, not the other way around.

Tutoring should add value, not just add hours. My style is focused, structured and direct — students leave every session knowing what they learned, what they can now do independently, and what's next, in the least amount of time.

Experience

My experience spans across secondary Mathematics and Science education, I have taught across Cambridge/IGCSE curricula, delivered SAT instruction and exam proctoring, and prepared students for the VCE GAT numeracy component (aligned to Victorian Literacy and Numeracy Standards and the Australian Core Skills Framework, Level 3).

My teaching spans the Australian/Victorian curriculum from Years 5–12 across Number & Algebra, Measurement & Geometry, and Statistics & Probability, through to VCE Mathematics pathways (General, Methods, Specialist, Foundation) and Years 9–10 Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics).

I have also created standards-aligned exam content for a college-level AI course (ITAI 1201), benchmarked against ACM/IEEE CS2023.

My approach centres on diagnostic assessment before instruction, using strategies including Differentiated Instruction, Explicit Instruction, Universal Design for Learning, Metacognitive Strategies, Inquiry- and Problem-Based Learning, and Kagan Cooperative Learning structures to meet each student where they are.

For senior students, I build VCE and ATAR preparation around three pillars which is content mastery, application, and exam performance using targeted practice, past exam material, timed conditions and detailed error analysis, while helping ATAR-focused students align their subject choices and study strategy to their university pathway.
