I am a VIT-registered secondary mathematics teacher with more than seven years of teaching and tutoring experience across secondary schools, private tutoring and university education.

I currently teach secondary mathematics in Melbourne, including VCE Mathematical Methods. I completed a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Melbourne, majoring in Actuarial Studies and Management, followed by a Master of Teaching (Secondary), specialising in Mathematics and Business Management.

Alongside my secondary teaching, I have also taught undergraduate students at the University of Melbourne across Economics and Management subjects, including Introductory Microeconomics, Introductory Macroeconomics and Organisational Behaviour. I have worked with university students from a wide range of academic and cultural backgrounds, helping them develop quantitative reasoning, economic analysis, written communication and independent learning skills.

My university teaching experience strongly influences the way I tutor high school students. I understand not only what students need to succeed in VCE, but also the mathematical thinking, study habits and independence they will eventually need when transitioning into university.

My tutoring approach is structured, supportive and focused on genuine understanding. Rather than teaching students to memorise a fixed procedure, I help them understand why a method works, how to recognise different question types, and how to adapt their knowledge when they encounter unfamiliar problems.

A particular strength of my teaching is identifying foundational gaps. In Mathematical Methods, difficulties with calculus, functions or probability are often caused by earlier weaknesses in algebra, equations, graphs, indices or logarithms. I work systematically to rebuild these skills while keeping students aligned with their current school curriculum.

For VCE Mathematical Methods students, I can support both technology-free and technology-active problem solving, including effective use of the TI-Nspire CAS. I place strong emphasis on algebraic fluency, functions and graphs, calculus, probability, SAC preparation, exam technique and interpreting unfamiliar questions.

My experience in both secondary and university education also means I am particularly interested in helping students bridge the gap between school and tertiary study. For stronger students, I can provide extension and higher-level problem solving. For students who are struggling, I break concepts down carefully, identify exactly where understanding has been lost, and rebuild confidence step by step.

I also have extensive experience designing assessments, revision resources and practice questions, allowing me to provide targeted practice based on a student’s actual needs rather than simply assigning large quantities of repetitive work.

My goal is not only to help students improve their next SAC or exam result, but to develop stronger mathematical thinking, better study habits and greater independence over time.

Hi, I’m Felix. I’m a Melbourne-based secondary mathematics teacher and a VIT-registered teacher, with more than seven years of experience across tutoring, secondary schools and university teaching.

I currently teach secondary mathematics in Melbourne, including VCE Mathematical Methods, and have taught students across Years 9 to 12. I have also worked as a tutor at the University of Melbourne, teaching undergraduate Economics and Management subjects. This combination has given me a strong understanding of both high school mathematics and the skills students eventually need at university.

My main tutoring focus is VCE Mathematical Methods, as well as mathematics for students in Years 9 to 11 who want to strengthen their foundations before senior school.

Qualifications

I hold a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Melbourne, majoring in Actuarial Studies and Management, where I graduated with a First Class Honours-equivalent WAM of 82.

I also completed a Master of Teaching (Secondary) at the University of Melbourne, specialising in Mathematics and Business Management.

My academic background in actuarial studies provides me with a strong foundation in mathematics, statistics and quantitative problem-solving, while my teaching qualification has equipped me with evidence-based approaches to curriculum design, assessment and student learning.

I am also a fully registered teacher with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT).
