Sydney tutor in Algebra, Biology, Calculus, Chemistry, English, Essay Writing, General Maths, General Science, Law, Legal Studies, Maths

Hi, I'm Rob. I'm an experienced private tutor based in Dee Why and have been tutoring high-school students since 2013, working with more than 100 students across Chemistry, Mathematics and English.

I have a PhD in organic and medicinal chemistry from UNSW, as well as a Bachelor of Medicinal Chemistry (First Class Honours) and Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours). I taught undergraduate chemistry at UNSW for several years during my PhD and now work professionally as a synthetic organic chemist at ANSTO.

I tutor Chemistry (Years 11–12), Mathematics (Years 7–12), English and Essay Writing (Years 7–12), and junior Science. I'm also a former Manly Selective student and completed my HSC with a 95.65 ATAR.

I've worked with students across a wide range of abilities, from those who are struggling and need to get back on top of a subject through to high-achieving students preparing for assessments and the HSC.

I place a strong emphasis on exam practice rather than simply lecturing through course content. I regularly use past-paper and exam-style questions, including under timed conditions, so I can see how a student actually approaches a problem. We then go through their reasoning together, identify where they're getting stuck or losing marks, and work on a better approach. My aim is to teach students how to answer questions independently, rather than having them watch me answer questions for them.

For English and essay writing, I take a similarly practical approach, working directly on students' responses to improve essay structure, arguments, analysis and written expression. I have extensive previous experience tutoring English, backed by my First Class Honours law degree.

I tutor one-to-one from my home in Dee Why, which is my preferred format, and also offer lessons online via Zoom.

Rate: $90/hour.

Weekday after-school places are limited around my full-time work, with more availability on weekends.
