The VCE English tutor you didn't know you needed!

Melbourne tutor in English

F2F and online tutoring offered for those wanting to level up their English game without sounding like a robot.

VCE Tips' sessions are unique, tailored and to be quite frank - fun, because this isn't about sounding like the Dux in your school, it's about building your understanding and capability in the area of studies that matter in English. I support students working across different performance bands, including students seeking to move from D/C-range work into B-range performance and capable B/B+ students towards A-range responses through targeted improvement in expression, structure, evidence and analysis.

Why do I do this? Because not everyone's brain is wired for English, just like mine is not for Maths. I love being able to see the genuine progress student's make when the strategies and conceptual break down of texts are applied in their work. Those 'a-ha' moments can be achieved - and no, you do not need to be a genius to attain that. I am confident that I can certainly help you get there, plus I've read majority of the books on the VCAA list for fun, so that's an added bonus.

Some common themes from feedback received over the years:

Engaging and relatable teaching style - use of humour, storytelling, examples and real-world analogies helps students connect with difficult material.

Makes difficult English concepts easier to understand - students respond well to the way complex ideas, texts and assessment criteria are broken into clear, practical steps.

Builds confidence - particularly for students who initially feel overwhelmed by English, essay writing or exam expectations.

Provides highly specific, actionable feedback - students know exactly what to improve rather than simply being told that a response needs “more analysis”.

Strong exam preparation - teaching focuses on strategies students can actually reproduce independently under timed conditions.

Personalised support - lessons, scaffolds and feedback are adapted to each student’s ability, recurring weaknesses and target result.

Improves analytical writing - particularly moving students from plot/content discussion into deeper analysis of ideas, authorial choices, evidence and purpose.

Creates a supportive learning environment - students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and refining their work without judgement.

Develops independence, not dependency - a strong emphasis on giving students repeatable frameworks and decision-making skills they can use without a tutor.

Give me a call or shoot me a text and let's see how we can get English working for you in your most important (and fun) final VCE school years. We can break down the nitty-gritty details then.

Cheers, Vikki

Experience

What makes me stand out from the rest?

My ability to connect and build rapport with students is what has kept me in business over the past decade. Through my down to earth approach, student's not only begin to understand what the hell VCE English is about, but actually begin enjoying it, with the added bonus of seeing their academic knowledge and skill set improve in a subject they never thought was possible.

I’m a qualified secondary English teacher and Senior VCE English Tutor with 10+ years’ experience supporting students across a range of abilities. Since 2012, I’ve specialised in making complex English skills practical and accessible, for students at all academic ranges, particularly analytical writing, text response, argument analysis and exam preparation.

My approach combines explicit teaching, tailored feedback and practical scaffolds to build students’ confidence, independence and ability to apply feedback under exam conditions. I’m particularly focused on helping students understand not just what strong writing looks like, but how to produce it themselves. My sessions aren't solely on 'here go write this essay', but broken down to understand the steps and shown how to embed this within their own work, in their own way.

I look forward to meeting and working with you.

Cheers,
Vikki
