I’m Jake, a qualified NSW primary teacher and the founder and sole tutor at Leo Learning. I provide personalised one-to-one online Maths and English tutoring, primarily for students in Years 2–6. I can also support students in Years 7–10 by request, particularly in Maths.

I hold a Bachelor of Teaching (Primary) (Honours), current NESA accreditation and a NSW Working With Children Check. Before moving towards one-to-one tutoring, I worked in NSW primary classrooms. Tutoring gives me the time to get to know each child, understand where they are getting stuck and respond to their individual learning needs.

My lessons are built around how your child thinks and learns. I adjust the pace, explanation, questions and level of challenge as we work, with the aim of developing understanding and increasing independence. I also take the time to learn about their interests and what helps them engage.

Online lessons are interactive. Students work on their own screen using tools such as Zoom remote control, digital whiteboards, drawing and highlighting, rather than simply watching me share mine. I use IXL, Mathspace and Phonics Hero where they suit the student and the learning goal, alongside worked examples, games and short brain breaks when useful.

Maths support includes number, fractions, decimals, measurement and problem solving. English support includes phonics, spelling, reading fluency, comprehension and writing. Lessons can support what your child is doing at school, work on gaps in understanding or include NAPLAN preparation where relevant.

I’m comfortable supporting students with ADHD, dyslexia, attention difficulties and low confidence. My approach is to understand what is making learning difficult and adapt the teaching to the child.

You’ll work with me consistently, and I’ll keep you informed with clear communication and concise lesson notes.
