I love to work with Primary school children, helping them to achieve their academic potential in a fun and encouraging environment in a designated tutoring area in my home at Riverstone in NW Sydney.
I have a passion for helping those who are struggling to develop skills and confidence. I also enjoy helping gifted children to develop a good work ethic - to strive rather than coast on minimal effort. My ideal is that all students will love learning and never give up on themselves, developing a positive attitude and resilience.
I tutor every weekday afternoon/evening during school terms, but am open to school holiday lessons if the students are keen and we can find a time that suits us all. The most common request is for an hourly lesson each week.
I offer true individualised tuition - one student per session, with a program developed to meet his/her needs. Mainly Maths & English, but I am flexible and can work in any area needing attention, even at a moment's notice. Written work is "rewarded" with a variety of educational games - 100% focus in these ensures that skills are developed quite quickly.
I no longer work in schools full-time as I find one-to-one work far more satisfying. Nevertheless, I am working in local schools one day per week and am constantly doing professional development to ensure that I am up to date with curriculum requirements and changes.
I do not usually give extra homework, feeling that children who are struggling are already spending longer than average on their school homework, and they need time to pursue other interests including sport, music and playing with siblings and friends.
I am available for lessons via Zoom also. This can be on a regular scheduled basis or substituted for face-to-face lessons occasionally if requested due to illness or transport difficulties.
If I am available I can provide extra one-off lessons (onsite or via Zoom) as emergency help with school assignments/homework.
Consistent feedback from my tutoring families has been that the students love to come to tutoring with me as they feel known and safe, gaining confidence and hope along with academic skills and knowledge.
