Struggling with a subject doesn't necessarily mean you can't do it. Sometimes, you simply haven't been shown the right pathway to understanding.
With a PhD and more than 30 years' experience in education, including university teaching and teaching medical students, I specialise in identifying the underlying gaps in knowledge that can make a subject seem difficult or overwhelming.
I work particularly with GAMSAT, university and senior secondary students in Biology, Chemistry, Physiology, Anatomy, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics and related science subjects.
My approach is highly personalised. I identify what a student already understands, pinpoint where their knowledge has broken down, and then rebuild their understanding from the fundamentals and first principles. I use their own course materials wherever possible, while introducing alternative explanations and approaches when something hasn't yet "clicked."
The goal is not simply to help a student get through the next exam. It is to develop the understanding, confidence and problem-solving skills that enable them to tackle unfamiliar material and eventually become independent learners.

My undergraduate degree was in physiology and animal behaviour with psychology as a second major. I have an honours degree in marine biology and a PhD in chemical/environmental engineering. I completed a graduate diploma in education and love teaching. I enjoy assisting students with GAMSAT preparation and aptitude tests for entry to various departments.
