I began tutoring with John at the end of Year 11, at a time when I was seriously struggling with physics and unable to grasp even basic concepts such as the SUVAT equations. Initially, I expected the lessons to mainly involve me asking questions. However, this was not the case. John always came prepared with structured materials and taught each topic clearly and thoroughly. At times, after just one lesson, I was even ahead of my class for the entire week. After a few lessons, I found myself approaching questions with far more confidence and understanding. Moreover, John explained complex ideas using real-life examples and analogies, which made difficult concepts much easier to comprehend.
As we progressed into more challenging Year 12 topics, including electromagnetism and special relativity, John consistently answered my questions with patience and clarity, no matter how many times I needed clarification. Physics was initially the subject I was most worried about for externals; however, as the year went on, my confidence steadily increased. In the week leading up to the exam, I felt calm and prepared. This was the confidence built through John’s guidance and the regular homework sheets he provided throughout the year.
Furthermore, John challenged me with difficult questions that required a deep understanding of the concepts rather than memorisation. This exposed me to a wide range of unfamiliar problems and strengthened my ability to adapt in exam conditions. During the external exam, I finished with time to spare and felt genuinely proud of my performance. I ultimately achieved a score of 100 in physics, which would not have been possible without John’s support. He is a knowledgeable, patient, and dedicated tutor who continuously pushed me to reach my full potential. |

John is one of those teachers who truly make you want to learn physics. I started physics late in year 11 and had trouble catching up due to the fast pace of content taught at school. At first, I thought of physics as a subject that was tedious and incredibly complex, however, after John’s lessons, it became clear to me that physics was actually not that hard and was just rooted in foundational knowledge that John helped me build. John is genuinely one of the best teachers I have ever had and it is evident that his lessons are incredibly beneficial. Before starting John lessons, i achieved just over 50% in the grade 11 exam, however, this year I was able to score a 98/100 in grade 12 physics. I highly recommend John, he is a wonderful teacher and truly makes learning fun. |

I used to think physics was quite a boring and tedious subject before going to John, and would often be unable to solve complex multi topic problems which would show in my results. However, after going to John for nearly two years, he unlocked my potential in physics. He taught me strategies to tackle complex problems and make them seem like simple familiars and also had very structured lesson plans and worksheets for me to practice these strategies and learn, which really helped me improve. He is very knowledgeable in physics and makes the subject very interesting which makes you want to learn more. I was able to score a 49/50 on the physics external because of him and I would highly recommend him to upcoming year 11/12 students if they want to excel in physics as well. |

In year 11 I basically failed physics and then stumbled across John, he was such a good physics tutor and helped me get from a fail to a 99 in physics. I have been fortunate enough to have Mr White as my physics tutor for the last two years. For a long while, I hated Physics and couldn't imagine that I could ever do well in the subject. I had gotten into the habit of just plugging numbers into equations without understanding the question or the concept behind it. Mr White ever so patiently taught me a step-by-step approach in how to approach questions. He made such a great effort to ensure that I had a solid understanding of each topic and provided a lot of guidance and extensive resources to reinforce my knowledge.

Over the past two years with Mr. White, I’ve developed a way of thinking that has enabled me to excel, even on the toughest questions, not just in Physics but across all my subjects. I met Mr White, in the middle of last year, with poor knowledge of Physics, where I was just plugging in numbers into equations and hoping that I would get the right answers, but over these 18 months, he has taught me so much related to Physics as well as how to answer the questions on the external exams, especially as there are a lot of graph questions, which he has a secret technique. Even when I didn't get the concept or was just not thinking straight, he was calm and re-explained it in a way that I could understand, even for internals, it was due to him that I got 20/20 and 19/20 (that loss of 1 mark was due to me). Returning to the externals, the 2024 2nd paper was difficult in that there were many graph questions, with you needing to know what was happening in terms of theory and how to apply it. However, because Mr White taught me what to do, I wrote the exam very well, in my opinion. I was talking to people after the exam about it, and they didn't know how to approach them, so personally, I think the $80 is worth it to separate yourself from the rest of state in a good way. |

I started physics tutoring with Mr White a few months before external exams. At that time, I was clueless and had little knowledge about Physics. I was very fortunate that Mr White was willing to take me as a last-minute student. He is extremely professional and has sound knowledge of the subject. He focused on my deep understanding of each topic and broke it down so it was easily learned. At the same time, he emphasised teaching me problem-solving skills (which was useful for other subjects as well). Most importantly, he provided me with the appropriate techniques on how to approach the external exam and gave me plenty of practice questions on each topic. Without him, I would not have achieved a very high Physics score. Now, Physics likes me and I like Physics. I highly recommend Mr White as a tutor. |

BEST TUTOR EVER.
As a year 12 student who was not very good at maths and averaging a B in physics. Mr White really nutured my understanding and skills so I could blossom into a flower. After receiving my external results back I had achieved a 39/50 (78%). I thank Mr White again for his guidance and also advice that I can use for my future. |

Truth be told, John is likely the best tutor I have ever had in my 12 years of schooling. With his guidance and dedication to his teaching, I was able to understand Physics topics that I could barely figure out, and all this was done in less than 4 months. Mr John has been instrumental in my grade 12 physics external preparation. Physics was one of my weaker subjects due to the topics in course which I found very difficulty to conceptualise, however, through his method of teaching he made conceptualising and understanding physics concepts very easy. When a certain topic does not make much sense, Mr John is able to alter his approach by using different analogies and diagrams to ensure that the student understands what is going on. Furthermore, Mr John’s systematically approach to answering complex questions, I found was not only applicable to physics but to my other subjects as well, such as chemistry and maths. Not only does Mr John have excellent teaching methods, but he has a variety of resources to help students out, which I found very useful in my external preparation. For these reasons, Mr John is an outstanding tutor and I strongly recommend him. |

Mr White is a very passionate and knowledgeable teacher who manages to break down and explain seemingly difficult concepts in a way that is easy to understand. For the internal pieces of assessment, Mr White was an invaluable source of feedback who helped greatly. I believe there are not many Physics teachers that are as passionate and knowledgable as John is. He has helped me understand the subject of Physics and key topics - not just memorise formulas and definitions. I'm writing this review up a year later, out of my own volition, after having completed my grade 12 studies, since I don't think my previous comments have done justice in explaining how instrumental John's teaching affected not only my grades, but genuine interest for the subject I was learning. Not only is he a great communicator and well-versed in the knowledge of the subject and assessment items, but I can testify that he is patient, and values students' understanding. I can recall several times where I would incorrectly re-explain Special Relativity or get a question wrong on one of the many problem sheets, and John would not hesitate to re-draw diagrams and approach the topic from different angles for me to understand it. He'll lead you down a breadcrumb trail to find the answer, going through the logical steps, and make the process systematic so you're not force-fed the information, and instead you understand the 'why'.
John went above and beyond by continuing to give me advice for University after we had finished our sessions. I think that should speak for itself. Thank you very much John. |

Mr John White has been the most professional and excellent tutor I have ever had. He takes pride and patience in helping every student to achieve their best results and his perseverance is very admirable. He gives his all to tutor students to the best of his abilities and he persistently motivates them until the very end with no complaints. I am very grateful to have had him as my tutor for my last year of high school during my externals as ever since I met him I have understood a lot more as his detailed yet simple explanation stuck in my brain. Also, with his notes and resources I gained much practice which enabled me to bump up my grades from a C (for all 3 terms) to an overall B and if only I had met him earlier at the start of the year, with no doubt it would’ve been an A. I highly recommend Mr John White as a Physics tutor. He cares and connects; is well organised; and is very knowledgeable about Physics and what is required by the QCAA.
John has been a Godsend to my son, who after excitedly starting Physics in Year 11, soon spiralled downhill with the fast pace of school lessons, and became swamped with new content and assignments, to the point of seriously considering dropping the subject.
Fortunately, we found John who was able to quickly determine what was going on and turn the situation around. He methodically worked through the content, reviewed the content, and set & marked homework.
My son, with John’s teaching and guidance, ended the year with an Academic Commendation for Physics.
I cannot thank John enough for all his help. He knows his subject inside out and he knows how to teach well. He’s an excellent communicator and a brilliant Physics tutor. |

We are so grateful to have a tutor of Mr White's calibre to help our son Joshua in physics throughout Year 11 and 12. With Mr White's tutoring expertise in physics, our son's grades improved from C's to A's!! Josh enjoyed every one of his online face-to-face lessons in a very interactive and fun platform. Having a one on one tutor, Josh's understanding and confidence in physics grew markedly, and was reflected in his newfound enjoyment in physics. Lessons were always well planned, covering any problem areas encountered in class requiring further explanation and taught Josh new skills for problem solving the more complex questions. I would like to thank you, Mr White. The main reason that I found the exam to be easy is because I knew the theory behind the questions and hence how to approach it, which is because of your help, the revision worksheets, and the data test type questions practise. Last year, before we started our lessons, I got poor results in my end of year exam and assignments and I frankly didn't like physics. Looking over this year, everything has changed. Thanks for helping me throughout the year and responding to my annoying questions. Thanks for giving me valuable feedback on my assignments even if that meant that we had to have a make-shift lesson at 11pm at night. Under John White's tutelage, I have gained the confidence to tackle the more difficult exam-type questions. Through his extensive knowledge and experience, he has helped me understand physics concepts very clearly and has taught me new skills and strategies for problem-solving. Before each lesson, he requests that I email topics that I am having trouble with so that he can prep for our upcoming lesson. Mr White is always patient, supportive, friendly and willing to resolve all problems. Although I felt sceptical before using Zoom, after the first lesson I was more than happy using the platform for one-on-one tutoring. I found Zoom to be an efficient and effective learning platform. When I first approached John regarding my poor results in Physics, he helped establish a plan in order to improve my results. The agreed plan was to get through the work and be ahead of the class in order to fully master the various topics. His passion to help me approve was noticed through the worksheets and multiple tests he went through and providing me weekly sheets and review work in order to keep the knowledge over a long time. Additionally, he helped in the way I approach questions which I don't understand and apply problem solving techniques which applied to all of my other subjects. I have add a full term of tutoring by John and have seen a large improvement in my results based on a end of year test. If anyone is struggling in Physics, I fully recommend to approach John. |

John is very engaging as a teacher, emphasises the nuances in problem solving and provides in-depth discussions and tips about different assignment pieces, such as data tests. He also encourages students to update him after every lesson about what’s going on so he can prepare materials, and always responds before the next lesson. I have no hesitation in giving a glowing endorsement of John’s tutoring abilities. His whole approach to physics and maths is to give kids a thorough understanding of problem solving and ways of working through an issue with multiple layers. I used to panic whenever I saw an exam question which I did not immediately understand - through diligent tutoring, i developed an ability to deconstruct the problem and work through it logically. Had a 2 sessions at Mr. White’s place in Everton and 3 online. In both formats, he was extremely easy to learn from and a very friendly teacher. If you’re looking for a tutor that will make the difficult seem easy, and to learn how to solve all kinds of problems and not just the ones on the question sheet, Mr. White is the tutor for you.
