Andrew has been my tutor from year 8 to year 12. At the start I had several deficiencies in my maths, and my teachers had told me that I would just be doing Standard 2 for my hsc. The problem was, I have moderate ADHD, but I also love maths and science and want to study engineering, and was very frustrated I could not improve with the tutors I had before. Fortunately, Andrew was very understanding of my situation, he is a master in explaining all sorts of topics, and his procedures are always to the point and many times quicker and easier than the books. With his guidance and encouragement my marks started improving. I was allowed to do advanced maths after a few months, but my objective was extension 2. We continued working weekly, and finally in year 10 my marks were good enough that my teachers gave me the great news that I could do extension 1. At that point my confidence had grown so much, I kept working very hard and at the start of year 12 I was finally allowed to do extension 2, the hardest maths subject in Australia! Now admission to UNSW engineering, the best department in Australia, is very likely too. For someone with moderate ADHD and who was struggling for so long and had almost given up, this is amazing!! My parents are both very happy with these outcomes, for which Andrew has been a major driving force. We are truly grateful for all his expertise, patience and encouragement. Thank you so much Andrew. |

Andrew was my maths tutor from year 10. After a non stellar start (several Cs in a row) I decided to engage his services and was not disappointed at all when my first mark was an A+! As I started doing much better right away, I was so happy I recommended him to my brother, then friends and relatives over the years.
Why I recommend Andrew? He knows what works, his strategies and explanations are very clear. From the start he was also very encouraging and respectful, as well as very professional and thorough, and doesn't cancel in the last minute or intimidate you, as I experienced with other tutors and teachers. Andrew really prioritises your improvement every single lesson! Thank you Andrew for all your fantastic help!! |

My name is Chris, I was fortunate to engage with Andrew Chavez of Specialist Maths Education in mid-2023 to support me in my potential quest to attend University as a mature student (54 years of age).
Initially I was trying to assess whether attending University would be possible, and if I had the capacity to undertake a STEM degree at University level education with a year 11 high school education.
Andrew and I had several meetings, during which he assessed my commitment and capacity to learn, as well as develop an understanding of the needs for the potential bachelor degree’s that I would be interested in studying.
A plan was developed which involved me commencing year 10 equivalent lessons, working my way through year 11 and 12 across a 7-month period.
With Andrew’s guidance and tuition, I was able to progress quickly and secure a place at University earlier than expected as I completed the preparation plan a week prior to semester 1 in 2024.
The foundation knowledge and development of a capacity to learn was invaluable – I have successfully completed semester 1 in my undergraduate degree (all subjects with high distinctions) and I look forward to enjoying my studies over the next 3-4 years.
Andrew’s support, advice, encouragement and detailed knowledge of both school and higher education curricula were decisive in my very fast academic progress and success, well beyond initial expectations, and I highly recommend him as a maths education specialist.

My son is in his first year of a physics degree, and says the best part of Andrew's tutoring apart from his incredible knowledge (he can answer so many questions off the top of his head) is the resources he freely sent, such as revision guides & old exams. My son feels that Andrew genuinely cares about how he is going and really wants him to succeed in his degree. Andrew has been integral in helping my son to fill in knowledge gaps in both maths and physics. His communication skills are excellent and prices are very reasonable given his level of expertise and effectiveness. This mum couldn't be more grateful!! |

To whom it may concern,
Andrew was the maths tutor for our twin boys for over a year.
He adapted easily to tutoring the boys together, in person and later, due to COVID restrictions, using online applications for individual sessions.
Andrew’s love of maths and enthusiasm for teaching are stand out features in his tutoring.
He is patient and undeterred in achieving understanding of maths concepts in his students.
He improved our sons capabilities in maths and this was rewarded by them both achieving grades which were 1 -2 levels above their pre-tutoring grades.
We were grateful to Andrew for his consistent efforts and would be happy call upon his expertise again in the future.
