I was able to achieve a band 6 HSC mark of 96/100 under Ms Mayumi's guidance for 2 years, while doing the preliminary and HSC Japanese Continuers Course. Compared to previous tutors, she tailored lessons to my strengths and weaknesses, and was very open to any feedback I had. Her lessons were enjoyable and extremely helpful, and in particular, she immensely improved my listening and speaking sections, as well as helping me perfect my Japanese writing and grammar. She was fundamental to my improvement and enjoyment in the subject, and I am grateful to have had such an amazing teacher, who helped me achieve a result that exceeded my expectations. |

I hired Mayumi to help me catch up with my Japanese language course for University, which I had fallen behind in. I found her very knowledgeable, fun, and helpful. She was able to provide help several times a week, which resulted in me achieving a Credit where I otherwise would likely have failed. If I had gotten her help from the beginning of the course, I'm confident I would have gained a "High Distinction." |

I've been studying with Mayumi since 2016, and I cannot recommend her highly enough. She is very responsive to student's needs and learning goals, and clearly thinks deeply about how to maximise her time with her students. In my case, I studied with her once a week, first while studying a PhD in an unrelated topic, and then while working full-time. In that time, she has been incredibly understanding of how to pace my learning to fit around my life while making sure that I am still constantly progressing in Japanese. With her help, I have passed all the JLPT exams I have taken. She also has a very cute cat! |

In the months leading up to my final HSC exams, I had had Mayumi as my tutor for Japanese and during this time I had greatly improved my understanding of the language primarily in the components of listening and speaking which I lacked confidence in. Mayumi was an excellent and flexible tutor that frequently provided useful feedback on how to develop my language skills. Thanks to her I was able to achieve a band 6 result of 90 in my Japanese exams and I strongly recommend Mayumi for any students wanting to succeed in exams or generally improve their Japanese skills. |

Mayumi Hirabayashi sensei has been teaching me Japanese for over seven years. As someone who has taught English in Japan and learnt Japanese in both Japan and Australia I am well aware that to understand a language the four components of reading, writing, listening and speaking are essential to the understanding of language. Mayumi sensei has an excellent command and understanding of these four areas. As well as being an excellent teacher technically Mayumi has the social skills to make a student feel comfortable in the classroom.
I can strongly recommend Mayumi as someone who is well equipped to both prepare a student for passing exams and to take part in everyday conversation in Japanese social settings. |
