Ian is one of the best teachers I’ve had in Australia. He is a really kind person who is always available to help with any English questions, no matter how difficult they may be.
He understands what it takes to learn another language because he speaks Spanish as well — one of the hardest languages in the world to master. Because of this, Ian understands step by step how to adapt one language to another, making your learning journey a piece of cake and giving you the right guidance to speak beautiful, fluent English.

A little over a year ago, I met Ian through a language exchange app. I think meeting Ian and the community he's building (OffbeatTertulia) is one of those unexpected things you don't know exists, but it's perfectly timed for what you are needing.
Since he invited me to be part of his community, I have had a space where from here in Guatemala, I can improve my English (listening and speaking) by talking with people from different parts of Latin America. By listening to the different accents and learning how other Spanish speakers share their experiences and by sharing mine in a foreign language. It’s an enormous challenge, however with Ian, it seems that the burden is less complex. Ian not only knows English, he also knows how to teach and how to guide us to learn to speak English correctly.
The first thing Ian told me when I started on this learning path with him was, "don't worry about the accent”, I've learned that the most important thing is to be able to enrich the vocabulary and learn to say the words the right way, with good pronunciation, because there are sounds in English that don’t exist in Spanish.
In short, it has been an incredible experience learning from such a great coach as Ian Carpenter, and if you are a Spanish speaker, you are learning english and you want my advice, please join our community and let's all help achieve the goals of OffbeatTertulia. |

English is my third language. I have always struggled to communicate with native speaker even after 12 years of living in Australia. So I decided to have a tutor and it was Ian. Ian has helped me a lot in boosting my confidence, encouraged me to speak without being discouraged fearing of making mistakes. Nowadays, I communicate with confidence with my kids' teachers, doctors and everyone I meet. And As a results, I have a job and most importantly I feel that I fit in; I belong to this country, Australia. On another note, Ian has a what's up group; he posts a word and an idiom everyday for us to make sentences and he correct them later on. It is a good way to practice our writing on a daily basic. Teacher Ian is a very dedicated person and such teacher, he used to give us a variety of new words and idioms with different way to use them and exercises with pictures, audios , links of videos for improving our english, i am very thankful with teacher Ian for his effort every time. |

Ian Carpenter is a great teacher with many years of experience! I am a Cuban living in Cuba, and I needed a teacher to improve my English. He has been very supportive and kind, and speaks very clearly with a good intonation. Also he has a great plus: he speaks Spanish! Hence, it has been very easy to ask him in Spanish any doubt about words I don't know in English.
He's very patient and a good listener, and he is always willing to explain in detail any question. You can really feel that he loves teaching!
Also, I like that he always brings interesting topics to discussion for the speaking exercises! |

Ian is one of the best English teachers I have had so far. He really does know how to teach English to foreign students because he is very dynamic, speaks clearly but most important, Ian knows how to connect with us, always showing interest in his students and their backgrounds, a very open-minded person whose love for the world and its people clearly shows!
Thank you so much dear teacher for being so kind and patient with your Latin students from the English Conversation Club! I will miss our sessions when they are over.

More than an excellent teacher, Ian is an extraordinary person who dedicates much of his busy life to making ours easier, by patiently teaching us his language in a very practical way. He is very funny, very friendly which makes his classes very enjoyable, and I have to say that time flies when you are learning with him. |

I have improved my English thanks to Ian. He is very kind, supportive, intelligent, wise teacher that shares his knowledge and experiences in every class. He has a very well managed of Spanish which makes much easier for me. If I don't know how to explain something in English then I can tell in Spanish and he will totally help me with that. I feel more confident with Ian guidance because not only of his methodology lessons but also his berry knowledge in my culture. He is the best teacher I found so far. |

I met Ian through an English Club, where he is one of the English teachers.
What stands out to me about Ian is his passion for teaching and that he encourages students to participate during the class because some students are not confident at all with English.
He is also dedicated to preparing activities and materials to be used in the class.
It is also a big advantage that Ian speaks English and Spanish because sometimes it is easier for Latinos to understand better.
He is a great person and an excellent teacher. |

In his lessons Ian always encourages all the students to participate and enjoy the class. I met him during conversation class and we always had interesting topics to discuss. He is a very well qualified English teacher and vastly knowledge person. Students adapt very easy thanks to his patience and clarity in his teaching methods. |

I met Ian at a conversational club where I learned not only English grammar and pronunciation, but also learned about Melbourne, australian culture and their history. It's great to have a teacher who also speaks Spanish and knows how going through learning a new language is, as you can feel comfortable and confident with him. I learned a lot from him and now I also have a good friend in Australia. |

Mr Ian Carpenter is an extraordinary teacher and a lovely person. His passion for teaching English as a second language is contagious and each class is a fun and enthusiastic moment. No boring time with Mr Ian Carpenter, he knows exactly how to involve students to reach their dream of becoming a better English speaker. I am from Brazil and having a teacher that can speaks Spanish as well and loves Latin culture makes me feel more comfortable with my mistakes :-)
He even has a facebook page to help Latin students em Melbourne to improve their English.
