I have always loved certain aspects of literature (e.g. poetry, Shakespeare and certain novels). However, I seemed to struggle a lot with proofreading and expressing ideas clearly and succinctly. These weaknesses also leaked into my other subjects including ancient history and drama. At the beginning of Year 11, I decided that I wanted to pursue either a Bachelor of International Affairs or a Bachelor of Criminology. These particular degrees required an OP score of 8, at the University of Queensland (St. Lucia Campus). After many discussions with both parents and teachers I opted for the Bachelor of International Affairs. Seeing as my chosen degree required an extensive knowledge of literature, both my Mum and I decided it would be best to find an English tutor near me. However, my Mum ended up asking Mr Laverty because he already was my sister’s tutor. During these online sessions, Mr Laverty would show me how to interpret certain texts and pieces of literature. I was always amazed at his breadth of knowledge when it came to certain texts and novels that I was studying. Spending time with Mr Laverty really helped me to understand difficult concepts within English literature. Through his help I was able to find significant improvement in my expression of ideas and also in ensuring that my assessments were both clear and concise. With his help I was able to achieve an ATAR score of 94.00, and English was ranked as my second highest subject. Mr Laverty goes above and beyond for each of his students and is easy to relate to. But the part that I have always appreciated the most about his sessions was his willingness to take time out of his day to offer both advice and suggestions on a variety of English assessments. There is no doubt in my mind that I would recommend Mr Laverty as an online tutor to anyone who is seeking to improve their English skills.

Throughout my schooling I’ve always struggled in my study of secondary English, especially in the areas of expression, starting sentences, structuring essays, proofreading, spelling and knowledge of literature. Even though I didn’t enjoy English, I was still motivated to learn and performed well in subjects such as Maths, Physics, Graphics and Engineering. However, my English skills were still holding me back as I needed to be able to communicate more clearly and effectively when completing school assignments. By the end of Year 10, I was at a crossroads as to whether I wanted to pursue an electrical trade or an Engineering degree at university. This particular degree required an ATAR of 90 for entry into the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) at the University of Queensland (St Lucia) campus. After many discussions we decided on the university pathway. I initially looked for a tutor near me, but my Mum ended up contacting Mr Laverty as he had previously been my sister’s English tutor. My Mum purchased the one-hour comprehensive package sessions through Skype. During these online tutoring sessions Mr Laverty showed me how to avoid repetition within sentences and demonstrated how to improve my editing and proofreading skills. I really enjoyed how he modelled essay prompt responses with a strong focus on crafting contention statements and supporting arguments. Mr Laverty also outlined the importance of consistent reading to improve my English skills and suggested that I read ‘Bear Grylls’ as it matched my interests to the outdoors. Once I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down! In one particular online lesson, we covered feature articles and how bias is used to persuade audiences. Mr Laverty sourced an article on ‘State of Origin’ which I found easy to engage with as I love Rugby League! Over time, I noticed that both my spelling and grammar improved significantly which was then reflected in my grades. From Year 11 to Year 12, I went from a (C- to a B+) overall and received an (A-) on two of my final assessment pieces. Mr Laverty’s lessons were always positive and engaging, I really enjoyed his worksheets that he modified and was impressed by his knowledge of current events. We always reflected on what I had learnt and how I could implement these skills when it came to writing my own assessments. Without Mr Laverty’s online tutoring I wouldn’t have been able to achieve the ATAR that I needed to gain entry into my Engineering degree at UQ. Mr Laverty has been an incredible mentor and I thoroughly enjoyed his passion and enthusiasm for English! I would highly recommend him if you require an online tutor! Cooper Goodwin, Proserpine. It was amazing how I came across MrLaverty. I have been struggling with my language analysis. I always get 6/10. Being an African migrant who cannot afford English Tutoring, I was just looking for someone to just read my work and mark it for me with feedback. That's all I want. I was surprised when Mr Laverty decide to help me out. I got 8.5/10. And he went ahead to make sure I understood whatever feedback he has sent to me. I will recommend him to anyone struggling with English. Such a kind man

Bernard was such a great help for me to get started on my English assignment with our Skype call. He was so supportive, willing and passionate about my success. The professionalism that he delivered was fantastic! Bernard displays a teaching style that is like no other; his patient and genuine nature made me feel at ease when I was struggling with the structural elements of my piece. His fun yet focused approach to English is something that you don’t get very often with normal teachers, lecturers and private tutors. Tutor Me Online has offered absolutely world class tutoring that you usually don’t get very often in regional and even more metro areas. The services provided come with my highest recommendation. Thank you so much, Mr Laverty!

I would highly recommend Bernard as a tutor. Bernard tutored my daughter for Year 11 OP English at a time when she required extra assistance to complete assignments. He demonstrates his commitment to being an excellent tutor through his positiveness and encouragement during the sessions, where he helped my daughter with proof reading, sentence structure and organisation of the assignment. Bernard is an excellent mentor and relates well to both students and parents. Thank you Bernard.

We would highly recommend Bernard Laverty as a tutor. Even after just a few sessions Joe's results have improved. More importantly his confidence and attitude towards his work has boosted 100%. He is proud of the work he is presenting. Bernard is an excellent mentor for Joe. He understands the special challenges that year 9 brings. Joe enjoys this time each week, and is self motivated to do the work necessary. As a parent I appreciate the change tutoring has bought to homework. There is a definite reduction of stress in our home. Thank you Bernard

Bernard is an outstanding tutor. He is currently tutoring my son for year 12 OP English and improved his results through year 11. The sessions are over skype and it works brilliantly. Bernard tailors each session to the needs of the student. His methods are both engaging and encouraging. He is also a great mentor and can relate to both male and female students (Bernard also tutored my daughter through her Senior English). When your kids come out of their session de-stressed and prepared for their assessment it is a huge relief for all. Bernard comes with my highest recommendation.

Bernard was an excellent tutor for both my daughters. He was able to engage with them in a positive and entertaining manner. He was always on time and always ensured that my children got the best out of their sessions. He would be in contact with their teachers and bring extra material to improve any aspects of the English language. All in all, I would recommend Bernard to anyone!
