Hi, I’m Ish, an English, English Language, Literature and EAL teacher and tutor. I’ve worked with VCE English students for over eight years, and I genuinely love helping young people make sense of English.
I hold a Bachelor of Secondary Education specialising in English and have been fortunate enough to be involved in writing and marking VCE examinations for various organisations, alongside volunteering as a tutor for students in regional Victoria. Over the years, I’ve taught across VCE English, English Language, Literature and EAL, and I’m familiar with the texts and expectations of the current study designs.
My students have achieved study scores as high as 50, and based on my most recent student data, 95% of my VCE students achieved a study score above 40. My younger students typically improve by around two letter grades within a term.
That said, I don’t believe tutoring should only be for students chasing a 45+. I’ve taught students aiming for perfect scores and students who simply want to walk into SACs feeling confident, and I treat both with the same care, clarity and respect.
What I’m particularly proud of is hearing students tell me that I’ve made English finally *make sense*.

## Small-Group VCE Tuition
For 2027, my VCE tuition is delivered through small classes of no more than four students, with every class taught personally by me.
Classes are $110 per student for a 60-minute lesson, including GST.
I deliberately keep groups this small because I want students to have the benefits of learning alongside other capable, motivated students without losing the individual feedback and attention that makes tutoring worthwhile.
Students enrol by the school term, rather than booking individual lessons week-to-week. This allows me to teach a structured curriculum I’ve developed alongside the pacing and expectations of leading Victorian schools, so students are consistently working ahead of their school coursework rather than simply reacting to the next SAC.
My goal is generally to have the year's core content completed by around **August**, giving students a substantial period to work through practice examinations, refine their writing and become genuinely comfortable with exam conditions.
Term enrolment reserves a student's place within their cohort. If a student misses a lesson, they will still receive the relevant lesson materials, although individual make-up lessons are not generally provided.
Students also receive ongoing, on-demand feedback outside of lessons, alongside regular individual feedback during class.
## My Approach
Although students learn in a small group, I still don’t believe in cookie-cutter teaching.
A group of four students can write four completely different essays and have four completely different things holding them back.
I spend time understanding each student's strengths, habits and gaps, then adjust the feedback I give them accordingly. Sometimes that means breaking a difficult prompt down together. Sometimes it means modelling exactly what a high-scoring paragraph is doing differently. Other times, it means putting the timer on and practising under real exam conditions.
Classes are structured and academically ambitious, but I also want students to enjoy coming to them. I teach with warmth and patience, while being very clear about where students can improve and what they need to do next.
For students already performing highly, the focus shifts from simply understanding the course to precision - stronger interpretation, more sophisticated writing, better examination strategy and eliminating the small weaknesses that separate a good score from an exceptional one.
Parents also tend to appreciate that I communicate clearly and that they know how their child is progressing rather than being left wondering what happens during tutoring each week.
## 2027 Enrolments
Because classes are capped at four students, I only work with a relatively small number of students each year.
I’m particularly interested in hearing from motivated students who want to take English seriously — whether they’re already achieving highly and aiming for a 40–50 study score, or they know they’re capable of substantially more with the right structure and guidance.
Before enrolling, I like to learn a little about the student, what they’re studying, their current results and what they’re hoping to achieve. This also helps me make sure they’re placed into the right cohort.
If you’re a student or parent looking for structured, teacher-led VCE tuition with a small cohort and genuinely individual feedback, I’d love to hear from you.
