My name is Jonathan. I'm a qualified English teacher with over 15 years of experience developing students' English skills. Including students in Australia, Germany and the UK. I’ve also worked as a class teacher in mixed schools, as well as some top language schools in Melbourne.

I offer affordable online English support in the following areas: VCE Preparation, Primary & High School English support, General & Business English, IELTS (General and Academic English) and PTE.

My VCE English Preparation has been especially beneficial for year 11 and 12 students in preparing them for their VCE exams and university entrance scores.

I hold a BA in Education, a Cert 4 of TESOL and I’m currently finishing my Master’s in Literature and Cultural Studies. When I am not teaching English, I am a professional writer. Therefore, English is my main focus and an integral part of my daily life.

I take great pride in each of my student's accomplishments, and their success is my success. I make it my job to focus on the individual needs of each student – with comprehensive and easy to understand lessons, no matter the student’s academic level. I have many students and spaces often fill up quickly, so please state your availability when contacting me. I look forward to hearing from you!

AVAILABILITY

At the moment I am very flexible due to working from home. Please indicate your preferable hours.

LOCATION

I only tutor online these days. In my experience, online tutoring is extremely convenient and produces the same results as face-to-face lessons. In fact, I would say it is even more beneficial as students are able to access documents in real-time via Google Classroom without the need to waste time shuffling through paperwork. Please read my recent article about the importance of online tutoring here: https://byrontutoring.org/2020/03/23/now-with-covid-19-online-learning-is-more-important-than-ever/

KEY STRENGTHS

I believe my role as a tutor is to guide and inspire students to reach their goals. It is an academic relationship built on trust, knowledge, inspiration, and insight. Some of my key strengths include experience, patience, the ability to discern a student's needs, focus, motivation, and excellent listening skills.

TEACHING METHODS

I believe in supportive and tailored lesson plans that meet the student’s individual needs, encourage confidence and improve organisation and structure, whilst incorporating a broad range of teaching methodologies.

It gives me satisfaction to watch my students develop and progress over our lessons together, as their success is of the highest priority. However, it takes a degree of motivation and commitment to succeed, so I’m a firm believer in homework assignments with follow-up reviews.

When teaching, I employ digital resources, such as Google Docs, to edit assignments in real-time with the student and email to exchange study materials. I also supply a broad range of own exercises and VCE approved study design material for VCE students.

Rates

I have a few different rates for students and different subjects. I do not have an hourly set rate for all students, and this is because different students require different levels of tutoring. My rates begin at $60 and work up to $90, depending on the student's level. I am a very experienced tutor, and it is important to remember that you will be receiving very focused and tailored lessons as one of my pupils. The best thing to do is send me a message, explain your needs and we can go from there.

"I find Mr Jonathan Byron a great teacher. He is patient, resourceful, and best of all, open to questions, disagreements and extra comments. He is a reasonable English tutor, and is always free and quick to reply to emails and answer questions. Mr Jonathan Byron is also open to testing when something is not right. For example, in the fourth lesson he said we were to switch from Zoom to Skype because we were getting kicked off after 40 minutes on Zoom. I find that all these value contribute to being a great teacher. Mr Jonathan Byron is one of the many teachers who show all these values, making him the top dog, the champion, and the gold medallist."
