Jing has been my daughters Mandarin tutor for the first half of 2023. My daughter is studying Yr 11 ATAR Mandarin and has benefited greatly from her sessions with Jing. She is very approachable and encouraging and the lessons are conducted at her house in a very friendly atmosphere. Whilst a little daunted at first by the school workload for Mandarin, the once a week session with Jing has helped my daughter get much more comfortable with the speaking component of her studies given Jing is a natural and fluent Manadarin speaker. It also allows her to test and practice her work with someone who is not her teacher which also takes stress out of the learning. We are very happy to continue our tutoring with Jing. |

My daughter enjoys learning Chinese with her and she's engaging and makes the lessons fun. She can cater to adults as well and her structured lessons focuses on reading, writing, comprehension and also conversational, this means everything is covered.

I have been seeing Jing for weekly and sometimes fortnightly Mandarin lessons since 2012. Initially so I could negotiate my way aoound China for a trip in 2013, I realised how poor my Mandarin was in 2013, and continued to take lessons. More recently, in September 2019, I went for another holiday in China and found my Mandarin much improved (I did not inadvertently order internal organs for my meals as I did the previous trip) but I still need additional lessons. Jing has been patient, and today we looked at Chinese recipes. So I have continued to enjoy Jing's lessons and her patience. |

I have been learning Mandarin from Jing since 2012, initially so I could manage a trip to China. However, I kept going although learning a new language can be terribly hard, and you often hit a wall. As Jing is very patient and non critical, I have persisted, and actually learnt to read and write and speak adequately. Of course to learn Mandarin proficiently, I will probably need a few more years. But meanwhile I have had loads of fun and enjoyed Jing's company, and will continue to do so. At this time, we are learning poetry from famous poets of the Tang, Song and Eastern Wei dynasties. |

I approached Jing Shi with the desire to prepare and present a speech in Mandarin.
As a western person with no previous experience in mandarin this turned out to be quite
a challenge.
Jing Shi translated my speech from English to mandarin and we broke the speech down
into five sections.
Each week Jing Shi tutored me on one section with a great deal of patience,
understanding and help.
At week six I was in a position to read the five sections as a complete speech.
Jing Shi went out of her way to help design and print my speech onto separate papers for
each guest at my inpending marriage to a chinese national.
I cannot thank Jing Shi enough for all her help with this project that we both embraced
fully.
I would therefore highly recommend Jing Shi for her tutoring skills.

My boys aged 12 and 6 had taken 11 lessons only and they are able to read in
mandarin
and the eldest can have simple conversation with JingShi. My youngest boy who is 4
and
he sometimes follows us to the class and he also has picked up just by listening to the
two brothers. The boys have great fun learning with Jingshi and every lessons is just full
of laughters and CHOCOLATES as reward!!😄😄😄 |

I have been learning Mandarin with the guidance of Jing for the past two months. I
started with no knowledge of the language at all, but Jing has guided me so that I am
able to hold basic conversations already. She ensures that your pronunciation and
intonation (very important when speaking Mandarin!) are correct and builds on the
dialogue within the text books to help your knowledge of conversational Mandarin be
more flexible. Jing uses the 'New Practical Chinese Reader' textbooks to support your
learning, however, she also takes into account your personal needs - I am learning
Mandarin for business interests - and provides additional words and phrases within the
context of the text that would be of benefit. I have found Jing to be very supportive, with
the right degree of being supportive whilst pushing your learning to the next level. I
would highly recommend Jing's 1 on 1 lessons! |

I have been studying Mandarin casually with Mrs Jing Shi for around 4 months. In that
time I have improved from a very basic knowledge to being able to understand, speak,
converse and identify hundreds of Mandarin words and characters. The learning
environment is comfortable and reaffirming and I am confident that in less than 2 years
of casual lessons I will be very fluent in reading, writing and speaking Chinese
Mandarin.

I have been studying Mandarin under the guidance of Mrs Jing Shi since August 2013.
Jing is a very welcoming and encouraging teacher who takes great pride in making sure
her students achieve their goals. Jing is very friendly and i have fun every time i study
at her home. I would recommend Jing to anyone wishing to study Mandarin as her
knowledge of the Mandarin language and Chinese culture is of a very high standard.

Excellent teacher, always ready to have a conversation (in Chinese or English). Lessons take the form of practicing sentences and frequently used words from a text book, and then applying these in a conversation. My Mandarin has improved greatly, and I will continue to take lessons as I believe Mandarin will become an important language (especially for Australians) in the future. |

I initially studied Mandarin in school, and completely hated it. But decided to take it up again after more than 30 years of not using it. I have tried taking it up again at TAFE, but it reminded me too much of the earlier lessons and got too bored. But Jing Shi is an amazingly dynamic teacher, and we are going at the rate that both challenges me and improves my lanaguage abilities. |

Jing teaches my two boys, aged 7 and 4 (they we're 6 & 3 when we started). She is excellent with them.
The younger one only has a 15 min slot, due to his concentration levels. They learn through play and he is attuning his ear
to the language and learning vocabulary. My older boy does 45 min, plus homework. Jing works with workbooks and a
computer program. Both are making good progress. |

Mrs Jing Shi is an excellent Mandarin tutor. She is attentive, organised and thoughtful in the way she approaches her classes. She is flexible, and can cater to your language learning needs, as well as your study availabilities. My main goal was to work on my ability to read and write Chinese characters. We were able to go through approximately 2 years of classwork in the past 30 weeks of lessons by focusing on the right areas. I have improved steadily over the past year and I am very happy with how much I have learnt with Jing Shi lao shi.
She is also able to teach beyond the textbook(s), and help you with conversing in day-to-day Mandarin. I highly recommend Mrs Jing Shi as a Mandarin tutor, whether you are a beginner with very little knowledge of the language or whether you are someone experienced who would like to brush up on certain aspects of Mandarin. |

Jing is an excellent teacher and I would thoroughly recommend her to anyone wishing to learn Mandarin, regardless of your current age or skill level. Jing and her family are extremely welcoming and friendly and Jing is always willing to go the extra mile to cater to her students' work schedule and make her students comfortable (including feeding them if necessary!). In a relatively short amount of time I have been able to progress my Mandarin language skills a large amount which would not have been possible without Jing's patient and relaxed teaching style. |

I started learning Mandarin from scratch with JIng in March in preparation for a trip to Taiwan in June. With JIng's help I learnt a surprising amount in that short time and got a real kick out of having many basic conversations with the locals in Taiwan. Jing teaches in a friendly and relaxed way and I'm continuing to learn Mandarin with her. |

Jing is a great tutor. Easy to talk to, always prepared for each lesson, and she also provides textbooks
which are perfect for learning Mandarin. Each lesson in the book covers a different subject, each of which
are very interesting and provide a view of Chinese cultural customs.
Jing also provides honest feedback on my progress, as well as suggesting other resources I can use to
further my learning. She is also open to any questions I may have, and answers them with a perfect
amount of detail. Overall, my experience has being a positive one, and I look forward to further developing
my Mandarin language skills as time goes on. |

I have now been coming to lessons with Jing for about 9 months now and I have to say she is excellent
I would thoroughly recommend her to anyone who is interested in learning basic Chinese
I travel to China on business about 4 or 5 times a year, and thanks to Jing, after only a few months I am able to cope on my own in areas where NO-ONE speaks English !!!

I’ve been seeing Jing since early 2009 and I’ve found her to be a very enthusiastic and congenial person

I saw Jing for two weeks of intensive tutoring before leaving for China to teach English. Jing was very flexible time-wise and I was able to see her for at least two hours every two days. Jing is a lovely, generous person who really enjoys teaching, and this comes through in her lessons and when she talks about her other students. My lessons with Jing were relaxed and the set of text/workbooks that Jing suggested are excellent. Overall my experience with Jing was great. |

I love my weekly lessons with Jing (who I now refer to as shi mu). Talk about going above and beyond - she even cooked me dinner one time when I came straight from work! She is a lovely person with a contagious enthusiasm for languages and life. I can tell she's like this with all her students because she tells me how they're all progressing each week like a proud mum. The book we use is a university level text but I'm finding I'm learning at a level that suits me and it's not too hard for a beginner. If you're thinking of booking a Mandarin class - try this tutor you won't regret it! |
